Sound recording of President John F. Kennedy’s remarks to members of the Peace Corps staff in the United States Chamber of Commerce Auditorium in Washington, D.C. In his speech President Kennedy congratulates the staff of the successful development of the Peace Corps from its conceptual stage, and characterizes federal employment as the epitome of public service. A question and answer session follows the President’s speech, during which he addresses space exploration, the state of the American economy, the prospect of a domestic version of the Peace Corps, diversity amongst Peace Corps volunteers, and the relationship between the Peace Corps and American foreign policy. The recording also contains remarks from Peace Corps Director Sargent Shriver.
