In his speech President Kennedy addresses the importance of the Alianza para el Progreso (Alliance for Progress) in Latin America and identifies four major goals of the program: economic welfare, social justice, political democracy and stability, and international responsibility. The President goes on to discuss United States policy towards Cuba and the fight against communism in Latin America.
