This folder contains press releases and copies of speeches given in California by Senator John F. Kennedy during his 1960 presidential campaign. Materials include remarks on civil rights at a meeting of the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People), and a statement by Senator Kennedy in response remarks made by former President Harry S. Truman suggesting the Senator step aside as a presidential candidate. Of note is Senator Kennedy’s acceptance speech titled, “The New Frontier,” given at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) upon receiving the Democratic Party’s nomination for the 1960 presidential election. In his speech the Senator addresses religion, Communism, nuclear weapons, and civil rights. He also discusses a New Frontier in America, which calls for leadership, courage, change, and opportunity for all.
