Gavin, military relations between the United States and France, and a dinner at the White House for French Minister of State for Cultural Affairs Andre Malraux. Of note are replies by President of France Charles de Gaulle to messages by Soviet Prime Minister Nikita Khrushchev. Also included in this folder is a transcript of an interview given by French Foreign Minister Maurice Couve de Murville to CBS Television Network. This folder contains some foreign language material.

This folder contains material collected by the office of President John F. Kennedy's secretary, Evelyn Lincoln, concerning Cuba. Materials include a letter to President Kennedy from former United States Ambassador to Cuba Earl E.T. Smith, newspaper articles regarding Cuban Prime Minister Fidel Castro, and memoranda to the President from Special Assistant Arthur M. Schlesinger concerning conversations with reporters about Cuba. Of note is a memorandum titled, “Cuba Policy.” Also included in this folder is an editorial from the exiled Cuban newspaper El Diario de la Marina titled, “Washington’s Leftwingers-Tragic Threat to the Future of Cuba.”

This folder contains items regarding a trip to Europe by McGeorge Bundy, Special Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs, and his address to the Atlantic Treaty Association (ATA) meeting in Copenhagen. Materials include travel itineraries, correspondence with various American embassies in Europe, a copy of Bundy’s ATA speech, and telegrams regarding the reaction of the German press to Bundy’s visit to West Germany. Also included in this folder is a memorandum of a conversation between Bundy and Chancellor Konrad Adenauer of West Germany (Federal Republic). This folder contains some foreign language materials.

Of note is a transcript of "The Dialogues of Allan Nevins and Henry Steele Commager" broadcast on CBS (CBS Television Network). Also included in this folder is an article by Schlesinger for the magazine Survey titled "Coexistence vs. Peace."

This folder contains a transcript of a press conference held by Vice President-elect Lyndon B. Johnson, Senator Robert S. Kerr, and Representative John J. Rooney in Palm Beach, Florida. Vice President-elect Johnson begins the press conference by announcing Senator Kerr as Chairman of the Committee on Aeronautical and Space Sciences and Congressman Rooney as Chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee. The Vice President-elect, Senator Kerr, and Congressman Rooney go on to answer questions from the press regarding the space program, the missile gap, and strengthening the foreign service program by appointing career diplomats and increasing representation allowances as needed.

This folder contains a transcript of a press conference given by President-elect John F. Kennedy and Governor Adlai Stevenson at the President-elect’s home in Washington, D.C. President-elect Kennedy begins the press conference by announcing the appointment of Governor Stevenson as the United States Ambassador to the United Nations. Governor Stevenson states he has not yet accepted the position, and remarks on the importance of the United Nations.
