This folder contains material collected by the office of President John F. Kennedy's secretary, Evelyn Lincoln, concerning the President's News Conference of June 14, 1962 (News Conference 36). The President began the press conference with a statement concerning the strike being threatened by the flight engineers' union against Trans World Airlines (TWA), Pan American World Airways (Pan Am), and Eastern Airlines. He stated that a strike could have a significant effect on the economy and urged the flight engineers to reconsider this action and find some other means of settling their dispute without interrupting airline operation. Following this statement the President answered questions from the press on a variety of topics including why government budget deficits are not necessarily inflationary or harmful, the economy, support for his legislative program, the proposed farm bill, United States foreign policy, and foreign aid. Background materials in this folder include a weekly agency report summarizing Peace Corps activities and briefing papers for the President on foreign affairs and national security. The official White House transcript of the press conference and the stenotype transcript of the press conference are also included.

This folder contains material pertaining to the President's Advisory Committee on Labor-Management Policy, which was established in February 1961 to give direction to the general movement of wages and prices and to encourage good labor-industrial relations. Both Walter W. Heller and Kermit Gordon of the Council of Economic Advisers were involved with the Advisory Committee. Types of material in this file include correspondence, memoranda, reports, papers, statements, press releases, charts, and news clippings. There is a copy of the published proceedings of a Conference on Fiscal and Monetary Policy sponsored by the Advisory Committee (November 1962), and data on employment from the Department of Labor (March 1961). Topics include pensions, railroads, taxes, collective bargaining, and economic recovery.

Hady titled "The Incidence of the Personal Property Tax"; a report by Meta Heller on agricultural workers and migrants; a speech and notes by Borden Helmer on economic growth and business planning; a paper by Benjamin Higgins titled "Interregional Relations in Economic Fluctuations and Growth"; a humorous memorandum from Leo H. Irwin, Chief Counsel of the House Committee on Ways and Means, on funny things that happen on the way to a hearing; and a study by Vernon L. Israelsen titled "Investment in People: A Study in Higher Education Finance." Note that a bit of "P" correspondence is misfiled here.
