Sound recording of the radio program "Face Off." Senator Edward M. "Ted" Kennedy of Massachusetts and Senator Alan K. "Al" Simpson of Wyoming debate a new push in Congress to bring international pressure against apartheid in South Africa. They also comment on the visit to Washington, D.C., of Archbishop of Cape Town Desmond M. Tutu and other anti-apartheid leaders. The episode aired on Tuesday, May 16, 1989, on the Mutual Broadcasting System.

This folder contains copies of speeches by Senator John F. Kennedy given before the African Diplomatic Corps in Washington, D.C. and at Saint Anselm’s College in Manchester, New Hampshire. In the speeches Senator Kennedy discusses the independence of African nations; emphasizes the need for food, education, and development capital as essential for economic success; and proposes the creation of an African Educational Development Fund and a multi-national economic development fund for Africa. Also included in this folder is a statement by the Senator on violence in South Africa.
