This folder contains materials collected by the office of President John F. Kennedy's secretary, Evelyn Lincoln, concerning President Kennedy and Vice President Lyndon Johnson's remarks at the ceremonies honoring Dr. Robert R. Gilruth and Colonel John H. Glenn, Jr. with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's (NASA) Distinguished Service Medal at Hangar "S", Cape Canaveral, Florida. Materials in this folder include a draft and press copy of the speech. The press copy also includes responses from Dr. Gilruth and Colonel Glenn.

Kennedy Presidential Papers, and consists of items that were recovered by the National Archives and Records Administration on behalf of the Kennedy Presidential Library from the estate of Robert L. White concerning Colonel John H. Glenn Jr.'s successful completion of the Mercury-Atlas 6 test flight, also known as Friendship 7. Materials in this folder include a memorandum regarding recorded phone conversation protocols, a press release of President Kennedy's phone congratulatory phone conversation with Colonel Glenn, a press release of President Kennedy's remarks during a ceremony in Cape Canaveral honoring Colonel Glenn, and press releases of the text of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's (NASA) Distinguished Service Medal awarded to Colonel Glenn.
