Kennedy on November 11, 1961 from Joe Martin, Executive-Secretary and Photoreporter for the American Legion Press Association of Chicago. Identified as standing left to right are: Robert F. Kennedy, Congressional Medal of Honor winner Gino J. Merli (foreground), former PT-109 crew member Pete Intrieri, and Chicago Mayor Richard J. Daley. A sticker on the verso of the photograph reads: "Photo by Joe Martin. Photoreporter. Oct 12 1961. The American Legion Press Ass'n of Chicago, 8327 Cottage Grove Ave. Chicago 19, Illinois." Handwriting on the back of the folio containing the photograph reads: "10/12/61 State & Madison St, Chicago, from Joe Martin Am. Legion Press, from Press Office Files filed under Martin."
