Boston, MA: On what marks the 39th anniversary of the imposition of a U.S. naval quarantine of Cuba in response to the Soviet Union’s introduction of nuclear missiles on the island, the John F. Kennedy Library today released a White House tape recording of the deliberations surrounding President Kennedy’s decision to lift that quarantine.

Boston: When John F. Kennedy became president, he made a priority of changing U.S. policies towards Latin America, hoping to eliminate paternalism and exploitation from the U.S. stance toward the region. In March 1961, he proposed an Alliance for Progress to help create the political, social and economic framework for better living conditions in the hemisphere. If successful, the Alliance would prevent other Latin American states from following communist Cuba's example, falling under the influence of the Soviet Union.
Boston: A rosary given to Jacqueline Kennedy by Pope John XXIII will be among the historical treasures displayed for the first time when the John F. Kennedy Library and Museum opens its newest exhibit, Jacqueline Kennedy Travels Abroad, on Saturday, May 27. The special exhibit on Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy's travels to Paris, London, Rome, India and Pakistan will run through November 1. (This exhibit has been extended to April 30, 2001)
Boston -- To mark the return of the Tall Ships, and the last visit of the U.S.S. John F. Kennedy to Boston, the Kennedy Library will display in its museum many new materials which document John F. Kennedy’s naval career and celebrate his lifelong love of the sea and sailing. The new summer exhibit, John F. Kennedy: Man of the Sea, will open Saturday, June 3 and run through November 1, 2000. Washington, DC. . . Archivist of the United States Allen Weinstein announced that the National Archives and Records Administration , on behalf of the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library, has reached a settlement with the estate of Robert L. White for the return of thousands of pages of documents and artifacts from the presidential and pre-presidential period of John F. Kennedy’s career as a public servant. These materials were covered in a 1965 deed of gift from the estate of President Kennedy, which donated official papers and artifacts associated with the President and his life to the National Archives, in trust for the American people.
Beginning on February 1, 2008, the Museum at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library will display a pair of boxing gloves given to U.S. Senator Edward M. Kennedy by former heavyweight champion Muhammad Ali. This is the first time the Kennedy Presidential Library has ever displayed this item.

For the first time, the JFK Presidential Library and Museum will open its Museum to the general public after hours for special “Late Nights at the Library.” The Museum will be open for free from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on four special nights this summer. In addition to free admission to the Museum, the Library will host special activities for three of the four nights this summer.
The John F. Kennedy Library Foundation today announced that Jeremy Haynes, a senior at Mobile Christian School in Mobile, Alabama, has won the national John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Essay Contest for High School Students. The winning essay describes the political courage of former Alabama State Senator Joseph Langan, who in 1949 took a bold stand against an amendment that would disenfranchise Black citizens in his state. Haynes describes how Langan was ousted in his reelection campaign for protecting voting rights of all citizens in Alabama.
In celebration of the 60th Anniversary of the President’s visit to Ireland, the JFK Library Foundation marked the anniversary with special events and exhibits in partnership with the EPIC Museum, Irish Department of Foreign Affairs, Trinity College Dublin, the Kennedy Summer School and other institutions in Ireland. In June 1963, President Kennedy became the first sitting U.S. President to visit the nation of Ireland. The visit would also be part of his final foreign trip before his death in November 1963.
The JFK Library will show how World War II became the defining moment for an entire generation of Americans. A special exhibit, Service and Sacrifice: World War II — A Shared Experience, will present stories from individuals about the war — some being told for the first time.
The 2023 John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award® will be presented to five women Senators from South Carolina – Katrina Shealy, Margie Bright Matthews, Mia McLeod, Sandy Senn, and Penry Gustafson – who formed a bipartisan coalition to filibuster a near-total abortion ban in their state. A special international Profile in Courage Award will honor South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida for working to improve relations between their countries despite domestic opposition stemming from historical issues.
